An Overview of Trachelene® Granular Iron-Manganese Chelate

Howard Fertilizer and Chemical Company is pleased to offer Trachelene® Granular Iron-Manganese Chelate. This product is designed to address the need for a highly available source of iron and manganese in Turfgrass and other applications.

What makes Trachelene® Granular Iron-Manganese Chelate unique?

Trachelene® Granular Iron-Manganese Chelate is formulated with EDTA forms of iron and manganese. The chelated iron and manganese remain soluble in a wide range of soil pH’s, ensuring that nutrients are readily available to plants. This solubility “protection” enables the iron and manganese to address any occurring iron and manganese deficiencies, and keeps the nutrients available in the soil water solution.

• Derived from Fe EDTA & Mn EDTA

Why can I apply less of Trachelene® Granular Iron-Manganese Chelate as compared to other forms of micronutrients?

• It is a matter of soil chemistry, not particle distribution
• Chelation protects the metal from becoming insoluble, especially in higher pH’s
• An oxide is most soluble in a low pH soil
• At lower soil pH’s, where iron & manganese oxide is most soluble, iron & manganese deficiencies are typically not present

The pH chart below proves this information. Take a look at the availability of iron and manganese at low pH’s as compared to high pH’s:

The highest solubility of iron and manganese occurs at a lower pH, between 4.5 and 5.0. As the soil pH increases, the solubility of iron and manganese significantly decreases, making these nutrients less available to the plant.

The chart demonstrates that EDTA chelated forms of iron and manganese provide high nutrient solubility over a wider range of pH’s. This ensures that the iron and manganese are soluble over these wide pH ranges and available for plant uptake.
